Cinnamon Rolls and Mormon Tea

I had been planning all month to make cinnamon rolls for Christmas breakfast. Everything went really well except for one thing: they didn't rise. The only thing I can think of that would cause them not to rise is that maybe the water wasn't warm enough. They really didn't taste all that bad. The dough just seemed a little heavier than it should have been and they were a little dry. I was very disappointed at first, but Adam's family didn't seem to mind. They each ate at least two. And Adam's mom told me that making bread is an art. I've never been very artistic, so somehow I felt that my lack of "artsy-ness" justified my cinnamon roll failure.

I also intended to make Mormon Tea with the Christmas breakfast, but I got distracted by the cinnamon rolls and the eggs and bacon and hash browns and sausage. Basically, I ran out of time. So I made it the day after Christmas. I thought I ruined that too, because the directions specifically say not to let it boil. Somehow, I got distracted and it almost boiled over. Luckily, it didn't really matter that it boiled. It still tasted exactly how I remember it tasting when my mom used to make it when I was little. I hadn't had it in a really long time and I'd forgotten how good it was.

Pumpkin Cookies

I made pumkin cookies for a cookie baking contest at work. There aren't a whole lot of cookie recipe's in the cookbook to choose from and Adam insisted that I wouldn't win with regular chocolate chip or peanut butter cookies. They turned out exactly how pumpkin cookies are supposed to be. I thought they were really good, but apparently they weren't good enough to win the contest. I had to give Adam a hard time because the winning cookie was chocolate chip. As I was leaving work, I picked up my plate with 3 or 4 cookies left on it. Another girl was leaving at the same time, and she told me she thought mine looked the best.

Stuffed Hot Dogs and Shepherd's pie

I've been slacking off on my blogging project. More than a week ago, I made mashed potato stuffed stuffed hot dogs, and then shepherd's pie a few days later. I timed it conveneintly after Thanksgiving when there were plenty of leftover mashed potatoes. I have procrastinated grocery shopping to the point that I have eaten dinner at my parent's house the last few nights. I'm planning on going tomorrow, and the cooking will resume.
